What I Wore // College Day 3

College day three...  Whoops. I've skipped two days. The first two days of college have been long and intense. And to be honest quite draining! Was in bed by 10 the last two nights. Its surreal to be studying art, as a mate said yesterday, which is the best way to describe how it feels to be finally here is well .. Like a wet dream!

Today we visited Collins Barracks and spent the day drawing and observing the exhibitions we found, that would influence and inspire our collections for the rest of the term!

I wore..

Brown Leather Brogues - Topshop
Distressed Jeans - Penny's
Tartan Scarf - Penny's
White Mesh Sweater - Zara
Leather Jacket - Topshop

It was a pretty basic outfit today, but comfy, ad had various layers under my sweater due to the overly temperamental wether we're having at the mo. What I enjoyed most about this outfit today was how quickly threw it together this morning to find it quite a relaxed and chilled college look. This scarf is new to Penny's, and a must have for autumn! And a fiver where can you go wrong really?

The Roundup // Trend Forecast // Nasty Mesh

Jason Wu

Kye

Rag & Bone

Sally LaPointe

Out of all the trends, collections and creativity that was displayed at New York Fashion Week, there were few looks I found that could become a staple but also be that one piece in your wardrobe that could be a risk. Every designer has their own approach to NYFW, be it playing it safe and designing a collection that embodies spring 2014 with more functional than creative pieces. Now, let it be clear, I for one do love those collections, as they make NYFW sometimes seem far more approachable than the  riskier "GAGA"-esque collections.

But, its just those crazy clothes that create the buzz around the week, and for the fashion heads lends to a higher appreciation and respect for the industry.

Out of all the weird and wonderfull-ness of the week that was in it,  my favourite thing to appear through several collections was the Mesh Fad. Its sexy, flirty, risky, dance, even demure in jason wu's case, but it hit all the panels.

Sally LaPointe's  exposing plaid dress, combined with a patent leather bomber jacket hit all my amazing boxes. Jason Wu, whos designs are always strong, but very classic,  showcased a showstopping skin exposing gauzy dress with two thigh slits and a bodice. Can anyone say, Amsterdam Red Light, but hell with it, its Jason Wu, he can design what he wants, and I'll love it.

Mesh, and see through skirts arent for everyone, but there will be so many interpretations of this grea
club look throughout HIghstreets soon enough. Mesh paneling, flimsy dresses, see-through jackets 'm sure will all be making some sort of occurance in our wardrobes for Spring 2014.

Men's Inspiration // Macklemore

I'm sure everyone who attended Macklemore & Ryan Lewis on Sunday is still buzzing from their night. Having not gotten a ticket for it, I had my own personal Macklemore gig at home. Lit some candles, painted my nails and stuck himself on repeat for the night. Thanks Youtube.

Now, I'll say I loooove M&RL , but I'll admit I still don't know all their songs. In my journey across youtubes playlists for the pair I came their latest video for White Walls, which features Schoolboy Q and Hollis - we'll discuss this lovely lady another time, but for now lets focus on Ben Heggarty, yes that is his real name. Would have never pinned him as a Ben. Too ordinary. What his real name disappoints in, his style makes up for. Which is far from ordinary. More like just wonderfully fantastically refreshing. His style really just grabbed me in. I think it was that mexican style matador uniform. Hot.

Any man who wear what looks like a Bull Fighters Costume to the MTV Movie Awards, and matador style hats on a regular basis is a ten in my books. In an interview with The Independant back in May of this year, Macklemore said ;

"I don't have a stylist. I just love fashion, I've always loved it / I don't wanna dress like every other rapper, I wanna be creative, I wanna be original, be true to who I am."

Macklemore is fly. And yes he's pretty fly for a white guy. The fact he is white, american , and well rapping, all gives the human brain of 2k13 the distinct imagery of vanilla ice and eminem circa 90's. Not a good time for Eminems wardrobe. Macklemore though is beyond any stereotypical white rappers personas. His taste is 'out there' and sometimes a bit wack, but my god is it refreshing to see a guy enjoy  a decent vintage fur coat, capes, some solid gold jewellery, suede tasseled jackets, and of course who could forget that onzie from the Thrift Shop video.

Macklemore is a style god. He is one of the few who's making being stylish, but still  masculine, far more approachable for young men. He has a unique style thats pushing the boundaries of being creative and fusing both thrift shop finds with highstreet finds. For young men today, Macklemore I would think is one of the bigger influences on style, and personal taste.

Wrap One Regular Item // I Could've Melted.

Having accepted NCAD to study art in a few weeks time, there is wonderful summer project given to us dreamy eyed first years. I'm no longer dreamy eyed. Im hot, bothered and currently surrounded by bits of fabric, tinfoil, twine, and masking tape trying to wrap one regular item, an irregular item and an unusual item. This is only one section. Now I'm not complaining cause once I find something I like, I'll hit the ground running. But until then... I wrapped myself in tinfoil for art.

The Leibster Award //

Usually when I come home from the gym I throw my phone away to charge and try to ignore it for the rest of night - its the little things like not being glued to my phone during dinner that make the rents happy.

However, I just couldn't separate with it this evening. I had three new followers and a comment. Comment. Commm-ment. I now have five. Exciting stuff. But this was a particularly interesting one left by Emma. Thanks to Emma, who owns the super cute blog,  Summer's Calling, I have been nominated for The Leibster Award.

D'hell is the Leibster Award I hear you ask? The Leibster Award is a blogging tag where someone nominates you to answer 10 questions that they ask. After you have answered them, you must choose ten other blogs to nominate for the award too, and give them your own set of ten different questions. There are a few rules that come with this tag;

One//
The tagged blogs must have less than 200 followers

Two//
In your response, the person who tagged you should be mentioned in some way.

Three//
So those who you tag can respond, you should let them know

Here are the questions I was asked ;

//What's youre favourite Christmas film//
Oooh that is a toughy, there are so many golden oldies, having put some thought into this, its a tie with Elf, I'm bit of "a cotton-heded-ninny-muggins" when it comes to Elf. And of course Gremlins. And yes, Gremlins is a christmas movie!

//If you could change your name to anything what would you change it to?//

Being honest, I just wouldn't change it. Even if you paid me. Lesley Anastacia Patience Goulding.
Fresh. Okay its not, but its fun to say.

//What was your favourite song as a child?//
GANGSTERS PARADISE COOLIO FT Liv. I do not lie. I knew all the lyrics. Ask John. That was our car jam.

//Favourite scent at the moment?//

Was, Is, and Will always be Daisy by Marc Jacobs.

//Who is your idol?//
Hm... there isn't one person I would ever refer to as my idol. But there are a lot of friends I would put on a pedestal, there are even a few new friends I'd hold in really high regard and
                                             couldn't say a bad word about.

//Who is your Girl crush?//
Miley Cryus. LOL. JK. No ultimate girly crush right now Emily Ratalkowski from Robin Thicke's
Video for Blurred Lines.

          ^^LOOK AT HER^^

//If you could be anywhere in the world right now where would you be//
Huntington Beach

//What's is your favourite beauty product you continually use?//
Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream and Sudacream. They've both seen me through some 'spotty' times

//Where do you see your self in 7 years?//
Sweet Jesus I'll be 27 then... I'd like to think to be in love. Oh gawd, yes, confession, I'm a romantic.

//What' your favourite pair of shoes and why?//
My Nikes. End of.

TAG YOUR IT!

And here are my questions for you lovely folk:

One//One item of clothing you wouldnt survive without?

Two// If you went travelling where would your first destination be?

Three// One smell that reminds you of home?

Four// Your favourite song at the moment?

Five// House Parties or Nightclubs and why?

Six// What would your ideal way to spend a rainy winters night be?

Seven// If you had to choose between fruit or veg, which one?

Eight// What is your beauty essential you always have in your bag?

Nine// Coffee or Tea?

Ten// What is the cheesiest song you know all the lyrics to?

The Jeans Issue // Mens Fashion

This post is going to be directed at the somewhat male audience that may or may not be interested in how they're dressing themselves. I'll admit, I am terribly judging on how guys style themselves. I, like every other woman out there I'm sure, really appreciates a guy who looks well.

I'm going to start on the basic item in any guys wardrobe. Jeans. There are so many different variations of jeans, and with that comes with so many wrong ways to wear them! Although it is not always the man's fault in why their choice of jeans is simply, well bad.
Jeans that have;
  • Bad acid washes
  • Machine made "wear" holes and shredding:
  • Those god awful bleached crease marks around the groin and knee.

There really is no need.  This list could go on and on, but how long is a piece of string lads?

Firstly, like any piece of clothing, you want it to be flattering. How guys can forget this when buying something such as jeans is beyond me. When a girl buys new jeans, first thing we check out is our ass. Fact. If our ass doesn't look good in those low-rising River Island black jeans the 30 odd blips is not being doshed out. Now, boys, its not that we want to see your perfectly tight derriere, but what is nice is some shape and structure.
On the note of skinny jeans, they were a huge phenomena there for a while which kinda died off. And looking at AW trends for men , theyre making a new appearance. But there are  dos and donts in the skinny territory.

If you're going skinny,  it does NOT mean they've to be bet into ye. Skinny jeans are essentially straight legged which tend to crumple in round your ankle giving you extra fabric to roll, for you ankle bearing types. Yes, skinnies tend to be a snug fit, but there are ways to wear them without bearing your package.  If you're going skinny remember;
  • Loose tops and sweaters, I wouldn't recommend going tight on tight unless your auditioning for Tallafornia
  • Slim shoes/ trainers are a must. Overly bulky trainers and boots can add a weird kinda John Wayne twang to your walk without you even realising
  • PLEASE do not pull the waist of your skinnies halfway down your ass. No swag for you.
  • If you are a rather built, GAA, Rugby, or gym enthusiast, possibly another jean fit is better, as finding a pair you can get into comfortably can be an issue

I could rant on and on about jeans, and the different types and how to dress them, but essentially guys , the onus is on you. The wearers. I don't know all your shapes and sizes, so it is down to you to choose the fit that is most appropriate and flattering for your leg shape. To start the ball rolling if your into the skinny style heres some inspiration.

What I Wore // Everleigh Gardens Rep

Last night I got a great opportunity to join the PR team ( repping, just being fancy ) for Everleigh Gardens and Madison Nightclub. I didn't know what to expect or how to dress for such a place, so figured all black was a good choice since I was heading to a gig in the Workmans after!

I kinda went for a sports lux mood with the sneakers and everything being fitted.

Crop Top -  New Look
Super High Waisted Skinnies - Asos
Nike Airmaxes
White Mesh Sweater - Zara // wrapped round my waist for most of the night!
