Clean Bandit // OOTN

Last Thursday I went to see Clean Bandit in the Academy. It was an early gig so I wanted to be able to enjoy the last few hours of the glorious sun while I was in town, but I wanted to be pretty comfy too. I recently bought a co-ord set from Motel Rocks, a leopard print crop top and skirt to match, they're really simple pieces and I've worn both in so many ways already.

They look great together and even better mix matched with other pieces. With little time to choose what to wear - I got home from childminding at 5 to 6 and was aiming for the 20 past 6 train - I figured the MotelRocks Folly leopard print crop top paired with my grey jersey maxi skirt from River Island was the best choice. Of course flats were an obvious choice. I initially put on my Nike Air Maxs and was on my way out the door when I quickly decided, yes, a girl can wear to much leopard print and took my nikes off and replaced them with my white Air Force 1.

Like any person in a rush, as soon as I left the house I immediately regretted wearing the maxi skirt. Thinking to myself, that the skirt could be an accident waiting to happen, between it being too big for me ( only realised on the train) and it well, being bloody floor length, I had images of someone standing on it at the gig and the skirt just ripping leaving me skirt less. But I can happily report that that did not happen.

Clean Bandit were amazing live. Their stage presence is amazing, and I just fell in love even more with them. My only disappointment was that sometimes you couldn't hear Grace Chatto playing the cello. Being a band that mixes classical music with electronic and deep-house elements, can mean sometimes the classical elements can get lost in live performances. All the same, Grace's energy was electrifying and she looked deadly too. I'd definitely urge anyone to go see them live the next time they're playing Dublin.

Pretty Ugly // Ugly Shoe Trend

Hercules. This is what I'm reminded of every time I think of the latest trend for the summer that is so quickly coming upon us. Y'know those awful looking sandals that hercules released when he became a real hero and famous in the disney movie? The 'Air-Hercs'. Those ugly purple things, but at the time there were the coolest thing you'd ever seen, like wheelies, or light up runners. Well expect to see Air-Herc lookalikes around the pool, beach and streets with due to the Ugly Shoe Trend.

They're ugly lets face it, but hey bet they were super comfy and ultra versatile. Now keep that in mind when you go looking for your first pair of Birkenstocks, the reason for the ugly shoes of the world to have their moment in the spotlight.

They stormed the runways, and now every off duty model are wearing a pair of sturdy, sensible thick soled sandals. They are unflattering, and defiantly unsexy. On the runways they were trimmed with fur, bedazzled with swarvoski, some had velcro straps others were multicoloured to the max. However, there is something oddly enough inviting about them, maybe its the prospect of it being acceptable to wear your stumpy summer sandals all day and all night. Know what that means? No sinking into the sand or grass, or unbalanced drink induced wobbling cause of yo ridiculously high painstakingly high heels.

There seems to be something in the fashion worlds water, with this ongoing look with shoes at the moment having a orthopedic-style, last summer it was Jeffrey Campbell heels, which ultimately looked like orthopedic/polio shoes.  There are so many variations of the ugly shoe though,  cushy wedges, clunky square heels, squishy cork footbeds, roomy toe boxes and thick-soled sandals ,  all which will enhance your cool factor. Plus, if Topshop are selling leather pool sliders you know you'll be onto a win.
If your not feeling too excited about the idea of wearing poolsiders for the summer, or just plainly perplexed about this sweeping shoe trend, just think a pair of leather Birkenstocks will last forever, I now have two pairs. And I honestly love mine. A good pair will see you through the summer, and oh my dear lord they are comfy. So comfy. If you're not into birkenstocks look towards clunky heels that have a 'clog'-esque feel to them just go jelly. If you're going to go down the jelly road though, remember, rubber/plastic in summer heat don't go well together, they rub your little toe and heel like nobodies business. So keep a pair of dolly lace socks in your purse if you intend on living in your jelly sandals. Otherwise happy ugly shoe hunting!

The Sofa Playlist // Re-Vamping

I feel so out of sync with my blogging, I haven't written a piece in so long, so I've decided to rejuvenate the blog. Change is a coming you hear. A new look, a new name (possibly). I want it to be cleaner, fresher, more me. So in planning all of this, I've decided to resurrect 'The Sofa Playlist'.

My music taste is always evolving but recently I've been loving the more mellow vibes of the likes of James Blake, Bishop Nehru, Jessie Ware, Kygo and SBTRKT. Throw in some Damien Marley, The Fugees and more recently The Cunninlynguists , thats what my downtime music consists of currently.

So since, for some reason which I completely moronically forget of calling it the sofa playlist ( Genuinely think it was just because a sofa was all i could illustrate at the time..) I've been thinking that this bi-weekly (maybe monthly) music post should be kept in the realms of chilled, mellow vibes for all you groovers and lovers out there. The type of music that you can listen to face planting your pillow in your room, chilling to the max, or hungover to death on a couch, and other whatnot things you can do chilling on a bad slash couch.. You get the idea. mellow, sexy, chilled vibes are to be found on this compilation.

Keep an eye over the next for the and improved mellow mixtape!
